Fantastic, Jade. Congrats! This is an interesting genre and as a writer who's focused too much on exposition of a sci-fi world in the past I think I could learn much from Dragonbound.
Well, Mr. Mason the Third! I understand completely about wanting to explore and explore the details of a world. But...alas, when I do that, the only one who is really interested is myself.
There's a great line in FAME (the movie) when the genius boy pianist challenges the music teacher by saying that nowadays, Beethoven wouldn't write for an orchestra. He'd get an electric keyboard set up and do it all himself. The music teacher says, "That's not music. That's masturbation."
That's how I feel about lots of world exploration in my own fantasy lands. I'm just playing by myself there, and gotta edit it out and go back to the story.
Good point, Jade! I figure I can write about that kind of stuff all I want on my blog, and let the stories stand alone without it....kind of like how I'm guessing most people don't watch all of the "Special Features" on a DVD for any given movie, only the hard-core fans who can't get enough. :)
Good practice for me was writing short stories where there is little or no time for exposition.
I lived in Japan for many years and I noticed your Tigress and other China-set novels -- I have read an Eric Van Lustbader novel or two, but I really like the written-by-Asian perspective (recently picked up the YA Silver Phoenix by Cindy Pon).
Ah, I ramble again. See, I just don't know when to stop. Now, on to listening to your RT INTERVIEW!
This post could be considered as a movie review. I am in the world of instructional videos and I had discovered that that such movies are hip to the taste of the audiences.
